“The Prowler”
Sandra Takaro-Miller Milton, FL
Other Participants: Hilda Myrick and quilting by Ellen Flaherty of The Quilting Station
Quilt Full Description: The Prowler was created with applique technique. Basic zigzag stitch was used to make the bold outlines. The eyes were created using glass beads embedded in resin. The teeth and claws were created using polymer clay. The design was created using symbolism to bring the Prowler aircaft together with the Marines.
Quilt Stories: The challenge was accepted because of my husband's Marine Corps career. When we met, he was stationed at NAS Whidbey Island and assigned to VAQ-129; the Prowler Training Squadron. The quilt is created using many jewelry making techniques. The eyes are made with poured resin. The teeth and claws are made with polymer clay. This quilt is the first one that I have ever attempted to create. It was a wonderful experience that I am planning to continue with more quilts. The experience was more pleasurable because my husbnad, James Miller, was able to assist with the completion of the quilt by completing the sleeve.
